Who’s on Next! México 2019 announced Denisse Kuri, a Mexican fashion designer whom we proudly interviewed in La Revista Mujer spring / summer edition 2019, as the winner of the “Who’sOnNext” award from Vogue de México magazine, from among twelve finalists, on October 7th, 2019, for excellence in her work, design, and awareness in promoting and preserving techniques and indigenous textile traditions in México, with a contemporary twist. 

The prize was awarded by Who’s On Next, in the seventh edition of the contest created by Vogue magazine to publicize the best designers in México internationally and nationally and open the doors to all  designers who have a worthy proposal and a voice of their own within the fashion ecosystem.

The award was presented by Karla Martínez de Salas, editorial director of Vogue México and Latin America magazine. To receive this award, Denisse wore one of her own designs including a long skirt and blouse with indigenous woven designs in golden and natural tones. Among the judges for this award were Evan Chen, Director of Instagram Fashion Partnerships, Rossie Assoulin, fashion designer and Lisa Sadoughy and Ana Khouri, jewelry designers.

Dennise will also receive a creative contribution from the Vogue production team for a whole year in order to carry out the curation and execution of the look book of her designs, as well as  essential networking focused on the development of her brand. In addition Dennise will attend the Latin America Fashion Summit (LAFS) with all expenses covered by Vogue Mexico.

Ironically, the name of La Revista Mujer article  “A Designer on the Ascent” is in tune with her prize because Denisse continues to ascend,  testimony being winning this prestigious national award. Dennise commented in an interview about the award: “I think that Mexican fashion has to go hand in hand with our culture and our roots. It is what we are and what will make us stand out in the whole world! ”

We celebrate Denisse Kuri as a woman who inspires others with her designs and passion, and for not doubting – even for a second,  the importance of preserving the indigenous textile traditions in Mexico. Bra-vo!.
